Operation and Ticket handling Procedure FAQ

1.When will the flights return to normal?

We will continue our effort to restore normal operation of the flight as soon as possible. Please continue checking our official website.

2.My flight is affected by Pilot Union Strike, I want to refund my ticket, how can I do it? Do I have to pay the refund fee? My ticket is almost expired, what should I do?

      (1).If your flight is affected by Pilot Union Strike, CI/AE tickets are exempt from the refund fee; partially used tickets can also be refunded and the refund fee is waived.

      (2).For tickets purchased on China Airlines official website, please refund your tickets on our official website and the refund fee will be waived.

      (3).Tickets issued by travel agency, China Airlines has authorized your travel agency to waive the "China Airlines refund fee" while refunding your tickets.

      (4).Ticket validity of CI/AE tickets can be extended for 2months but other airline’s tickets shall apply that airline’s rule.

3.Where can I get my flight cancellation /flight delay certificate?

4.I will be unable to catch up my connecting flight, with other airline’s ticket, because my China Airlines’ flight is cancelled. How would you help me? How do I apply the reissue fee of my other airlines’ ticket charged by that airline?

      As “strike” is a matter beyond the control of the airline, it is to our regret that China Airlines will be unable to provide relevant cancellation compensation on the mis-connection, reissue fee of other airlines’ tickets, etc.. We will, however, still review cases with special nature, and will later set up a specific application icon in “Pilot union strike information” in our official website. Therefore we recommend that the related invoices/reciepts, and your boarding pass, should all be retained for future processing.

5.I am holding other airlines’ ticket (with CI/AE flight sector), what should I do?

      As “strike” is a matter beyond the control of the airline(refer to the Article 10.2.1.1 of the General Conditions of Carriage), please contact the original issuing airlines of your ticket.

6.The accommodation and transportation expenses incurred by the change of the itinerary (including the purchase of the other airlines’ ticket to complete my journey), should it be compensated by China Airlines?

      Although the “strike” would cause inconvenience to your travel, as it is a matter beyond the control of the airline (refer to Article 10 of the General Conditions of Carriage 10.2.1.1), it is not within the scope of our responsibility. However, we will review special cases and reasonableness of inquiries. Please keep your boarding pass and related invoices/ receipts ready for further handling. For flights delayed over 6 hours, maximum claim amount of service recovery is USD250.

7.Is there any compensation for my China Airline’s flight cancellation?

      Although the “strike” would cause inconvenience to your travel, as it is a matter beyond the control of the airline(refer to the Article 10.2.1.1 of the General Conditions of Carriage), to our regret, it is not within the scope of our responsibility.

8.I’ve bought special service requirement (eg: prepaid excess baggage, young passenger service, etc.), what should I do?

      The corresponding refund fee for special services such as pre-paid excess baggage, etc.(EMDA), is waived. You can also refund your special service charges(EMDA) on our official website at a later date with the refund fee also waived.

9.My tickets (including award tickets) are business (premium economy) class, but other airlines can’t provide the same service cabin. What should I do?

      China Airlines will do our best to transfer to other airlines align with your service cabin. If for any reasons you can’t keep same service cabin in other airlines flights, please contact China Airlines customer centers or branch offices to refund the mileages or fares difference between the cabins.

10.I hold China Airlines award tickets, but my flight is cancelled. What should I do?

      Please contact China Airlines customer centers or branch offices for further assistance. You can choose

      1.refund the award ticket without any charges.

      2.extend the validity of redemption tickets for 2 months without any charges.

      3.free transfer to other airlines

11.My upgrade and ticket awards are expiring. However, I can’t travel because of the pilot’s strike. What should I do?

      The validity of ticket award and upgrade award can be extended for 2 months .

12.I have booked cabin upgrade with mileage award. My flight is cancelled. What should I do?

      China Airlines will assist you transfer to other airlines based on your upgraded booking (service) cabin. If for any reasons, the upgrade cabin is not available, you may apply award refund or award extension for two months with China Airlines customer centers or branch offices.

13.already booked China Airlines mileage upgrade premium economy reward class. Can I take other airlines business class if they don’t provide premium economy class service?

      China Airlines will transfer to other airlines economy class if they don’t provide premium economy class service. Please contact China Airlines customer centers or branch offices to refund the upgrade award or extend the validity of upgrade award for 2 months.

14.Can I refund the partial used award tickets? How can I get my mileages return?

      Partial used award ticket is allowed to refund without penalty due to the pilots strike. please contact China Airlines customer centers or branch offices. Quantum of mileage refund will be calculated using the prorated distances of the unused flight sectors.
